xAPI, or the Experience API, is a way for us to track learners in our learning events. Some call it the next generation of SCORM, but it’s really much more than that. Imagine a technology that can interact with other HR databases and can receive data from a variety of sources, including on-the-job performance, to help us better customize the training we provide to each learner! Learning professionals have been excited by the possibilities but have often struggled to implement xAPI. But things are likely to change soon. It is now an approved DoD standard and we’ll likely see xAPI compatibility in many major LMSs soon!!! Come and learn more about the platform and how using xAPI can improve your course creation, increase your learning system efficiencies, and begin to track educational experiences in more ways than ever. We’ll also show some examples of how organizations, like the PGA of America, are harnessing the power of xAPI to develop better training modules and increasing the effectiveness of their volunteers and vendors. Dan Mehren is a partner in the Grand Rapids based eLearning company, Neunoia. Neunoia is a high quality, quick-turn, scalable eLearning developer with a proprietary xAPI LMS called Leaf. Previously, Dan spent over 22 years in manufacturing, working for several companies including Chinet, HON, and the Borroughs Corporation. Having earned a Mechanical Engineering degree from Michigan Tech University, his responsibilities over that time ranged from production support, facilities design, work flow management, product design, technical and sales support, and regional sales management. Safe to say that collecting and evaluating data played a key role in many of the projects executed – which serves him extremely well as he uses xAPI to bring value to clients today. Coaching youth hockey, golf, and being outdoors consume nearly all of Dan’s free time.
